Venice museums: free first Sundays and closing days
In Venice the free first Sunday applies to the state museums, such as the Gallerie dell'Accademia, not to the Doge's Palace or the other civic museums, which are free every day only for residents. The Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica open every day; several museums close on Monday or Tuesday. Each museum's own page is linked.

Italy's "Domenica al museo" covers the state museums. The civic museums, the Basilica and the private collections are not part of it.

Which museums are open on Monday?
The Doge's Palace, the Museo Correr, St Mark's Basilica and the Campanile open every day. The Gallerie dell'Accademia and Ca' Pesaro close on Mondays; Ca' Rezzonico, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and Palazzo Grassi on Tuesdays. The civic museums switch to winter hours on 1 November.

Do I need to book St Mark's Basilica?
Yes. St Mark's Basilica sells timed, named tickets, entry is only allowed in your booked slot, ID is checked and tickets cannot be changed. Bags may be no larger than 40×30×20 cm, and shoulders and knees must be covered. basilicasanmarco.it

Are Venice museums cheaper for students and young people?
At the Gallerie dell'Accademia, EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay €2 and under-18s enter free.
